This Week Online – 25-03-2011

This is the first in our regular weekly digest of items we feel have powered various corners of the web over the past 7 days, from video, advertising and social media to bizarre trends and news. Anything that has meant anything to anybody in the past week will be accepted.

Jade and myself have been scouring the inter webs from wide open spaces of Huffington Post to the tiny cobbled streets of Twitter to find you the most delicious mix for our list.

Enjoy.

The Week Online

This Friday the 25th of March has already got gadget fans salivating and running to grab that thermos and sleeping bag to camp outside their chosen store. What are they waiting for? first glimpse of some sexy new tech from Apple and Nintendo.

Nintendo and Apple square off tomorrow by releasing the long awaited ipad2 and the latest in gaming technology the 3DS (3D DS).

The 3DS has already become the most pre-ordered games gadget in Amazons history with 141,000 pre orders, and the device will be available from midnight at a snip £179. Of course Apple is also set to wow its fans with a thinner, lighter and faster product that has an inbuilt HD video camera making filming, editing and posting video much easier.

The collecting communities have been voting this week on animals dressed as food, angry Greek grandmothers, laughing owls and watermelons. OK so, not all online communities are in agreement with user-generated news portals like Reddit & Digg, but most online communities are all in agreement over the Rebecca Black’s song Friday.

The song is painful, and I must admit to feeling a rise in stomach bile as her fingernails on chalkboard voice tugged at my very being, but attention on Black over the past week has most definitely not left Friiiiiiday “Sittin’ in the back seat”, Black has sold 37,000 tracks and made a ton of money, so I guess the jokes on us. I do however feels that unless she decides to sing about another day of the week, or Charlie Sheen decides she is his new Tiger Blood, Black may have just been a whiny flash in the pan.
